In the notification from the Department of Education regarding the law for Public schools and Private school etc. paragraph 9, section 5 it is stipulated that inspection of the general levels of attainment for pupils in Danish, Maths and English, as well as the levels of teaching in general, is carried out to ensure it achieves the appropriate level expected of public schools.
As the Inspector for Henriette Hørlücks School I have, throughout the school year, communicated with pupils, parents, teachers and the management of the school. It is my belief that the school is achieving its ambitions to be a school for pupils who want to be well prepared for entering higher education. An examination of this year’s exam results does indeed show that they continue to be amongst the highest in Denmark.
The average result for Year 9 in 2007 was 8,96 (8,92 in 2006). Subject by subject the average results were as follows: Danish (Oral/written) 9,5; Maths (oral/written) 9,55; and English (oral/written) 9,1. As such the school has achieved the best exam results in Odense Commune and is, according to the Department of Education and CEPOS, amongst the best 10 schools in the country (measured over the last 5 years).
However, it is of equal importance that the school is a very nice place to be and that all interested parties participate with commitment. It is my impression that parents are very involved in both educational and social arrangements and that there is a good working relationship between parents and the management of the school.
Once again, I have not in the past year been contacted by parents or involved in any problems in my role as inspector.
Kind regards,
Erik Laumand
